This past Saturday, University of Toronto's African Student Association celebrated their 11th coming
Afrobeat fashion and culture event. ASA has remained one of UofT's largest student groups on campus and this event is only one of many that have continuously grown with them over the years.
Hosted by UK internet sensation
T-Boy, widely known under the YouTube handle
DntJealousMe, this year's Afrobeat event was a great success. Throughout the night, the audience was lead through all corners of the African continent with energetic and engaging cultural performances. From spoken word artists, to belly dancers, to singers, to drummers, the line up was not only diverse but extremely talented!

Fashion also had a strong on-going presence throughout the event, with various designers of African heritage showcasing their latest collections.

Designers Tehilah, Miss Beida, ZNA.K and CherithB all used ASA members as their models; some of them even creating custom designs specially for these lovely volunteers.

It was wonderful to see such a great amount of diversity on the runway. Models came out strutting in all shapes and sizes, each just as beautiful as the others. But this also extended into the clothing themselves; with a dynamic fusion of modern Western trends and traditional African fabrics.

A big congratulations to the ASA students over at UofT for another fantastic event. I can only see the Afrobeat tradition growing bigger and bolder in the years to come.
