Designer Spotlight: Alec Hildebrand

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, upcoming designer Alec Hildebrand was accepted into Ryerson’s Fashion Design Program in 2012. He has since interned for Lennard Taylor Design studio, co-produced the Revolution 2014 Fashion Show based around sustainability, and plans to intern for Sunny Fong this Summer.

Alec’s design process is always centred around sustainability, focusing on eco-conscious methods, but also keeping salability in mind. His evening wear design was inspired by the 1997 video game ‘Riven’. The corset is made of vegetable-tanned leather that was hand-conditioned with an Otterwax leather salve, made with all-natural plant oils and beeswax. It is lined with tencel for maximum comfort. The skirt is made of 80% hemp 20% silk blend fabric, with back style lines contouring around the seat for maximum derriere flaunting.
