Making a Splash at Mass Ex

Mass Exodus 2014 was an exciting show full of fresh innovative designs, but the fashion lines that lit up the runway above all others were the original swimwear designs by INNA and LO.

The cutout and colour block modern edged INNA line was presented first. Its brilliant burst of royal blues, aqua and gold illuminated the catwalk. This sexy Egyptianesque, jewel-toned collection was so exquisitely presented that even the models couldn’t help but express their approval with knowing smiles while their slicked back hair and long extended ponytail braids perfected the last styling touch that pulled the entire look together.

Close runner up coincidently was the other swimwear line by LO. Remarkably exceptional as well, this monochromatic, white, clean, classic aesthetic offered a completely different appeal. Its modest but sophisticated high-waisted bottoms styling with varying sporty and draped tops reminisced 50’s Hollywood Glamour exuding class, grace and elegance.

Both designers did a phenomenal job. It was apparent that the audience highly appreciated these unique gorgeous fashion lines. Whether daring and provocative swimwear is what you are looking for or a more modest sublime sophistication, they were both a breath of fresh air reminding us that our long awaited Canadian summer will indeed be coming soon.

Accidental Hipster

When I met my current beau, Mathew, 5 years ago, I knew I would have my work cut out for me. He rocked those Bluenotes t-shirts with the lame sayings on them  ("this is what cool looks like" ring a bell?) and bootcut jeans. A fashion students nightmare. Slowly and surely however, I've worked my sneaky girlfriend magic and have managed to transform him from a 21 year old man child, into a 26 year old GQ fashion editor's dream, all while making him think it was his own idea - the perfect crime right?

I will say this however, it took a solid 2 and a half years to get him out of bootcut and into skinny/straight legs... Mission accomplished.

The watch I bought him for our first christmas together got the ball rolling, and replaced the horrible heavy duty digital watch he had been wearing for a few years prior.

Black Seamless

As someone with very little experience with photography prior to this class, I have never photographed with a black backdrop.  Because of this, I decided to take this opportunity to practice and altered my DIY studio with a black seamless. I chose to start with simple fashion product photography and experimented with different textures, colours, as well as with black and white photography. The photos are shot with a three light set up and the levels were adjusted in Photoshop. Overall, I am pleased with how these photos came out and I am glad I had this occasion to experiment.

Staring window stores in Paris..

I feel like one of the luckiest people on earth having the oppurtunities to go to so many different countries. However, I have only been to their airports, so I am not that lucky. Travelling back and forth from Greece to Canada I have to stop to many countries for connecting flights. Although I do not actually see the country, an airport can tell a lot about it. This past February I had to wait for 5 hours in Paris, France. Someone would think that that would be so boring and it actually can be at some airports, but in Paris it was beautiful!! They had so many stores (very expensive ones, did not even bother going in since i was in sweatpants,  a T-shirt and no make up....SCARY!), so I just stared at their windows with their beautiful garments. They also had so many shops with sweets such as macaroons, but they were 40euro each box of macaroon so I just stared the window shops again, hoping one of the French girls that worked there would feel sorry for me and give me a free macaroon...but I guess French people don't like giving things for free!! Window staring in an airport in Paris, what an amazing experience!!

MCFW14: Malorie Urbanovitch

This was the first fashion show I have ever been to, so I thought it would be appropriate to post a picture and make a post about it.

This was Malorie Urbanovitch's F/W 2014 collection, part of the Mercedes Benz start up show. To capture these images so that the photo isn't blurry, I had to increase the shutter speed greatly. Allowing for their motion to be captured. Since the lighting was quite bright as well, I had to increase the fstop number to make it a bit darker.

The Show featured casual knits as well as structured skirts and dresses which created a nice juxtaposition. As well as with the dark colours mixed with lighter pastel like colours. Here are a few of my favourite looks:

Spring Has (Almost) Sprung

While we thought the grim days of winter would never come to an end, we're slowly starting to see a light at the end of the very cold, dark tunnel. The weather has been starting to perk up, making spring seem a little more promising. The sun has been starting to prove it still exists, our extremities are beginning to unthaw and we no longer need to ensure that we are leaving the house wrapped in multiple layers. Stores start to pour out their bright new collections and windows showcase beautiful scenes of this uplifting season (which of course results in the automatic distaste for our current closet). With spring comes new life, new beginnings and best of all...new clothes.
